Last week, the New York Times ran an interactive article called “An Inside Look at the Subway’s Archaic Signal System”, which provided one of the most “behind the scenes looks” at the signal towers (and CBTC systems) that keep the New York Subway system running.  Check it out, though you may need to find a friend with the ability to gift access to see the entire article.
