Swiss Federal Railways (more commonly known by the initials of its German, French, and Italian names, SBB CFF FFS), was founded following a referendum in February of 1898, forming a national railway company. Prior to that time, all the railroads were privately owned. Today, SBB CFF FFS carries 365.9 million passengers each year, operates over 2000 miles of track, and nearly 800 stations. In 2013, 87.5 percent of all trains arrived at their destinations within three minutes of the scheduled arrival time.
