Freight Railroads

CSX

CSX is based in Jacksonville, FL and operates about 21,000 miles of track, mostly in the eastern United States.

BNSF

The BNSF Railway is the second largest freight railroad in the United States. BNSF has more than 32,000 miles of track, 6,400 locomotives; and 85,338 freight cars.

Union Pacific

Union Pacific is the largest railroad in the United States, with over 8,300 locomotives and 31,800 route-miles of track in 23 states.

Norfolk Southern

Norfolk Southern operates over 22,000 route miles in the eastern United States. The most common commodity transported by the railroad is coal.

Southwestern Railroad

The Southwestern Railroad is a Class III railroad that has operated in New Mexico since 1990. One line operates from Deming to Whitewater, where it continues to the Tyrone, Fierro, and Chino copper mines. The other operates from Deming to Rincon, where it connects with a BNSF line.

Ferromex

Ferromex is a private railway consortium that operates the largest railway in Mexico (as measured by track miles). Ferromex rolling stock can be seen in the United States, as the railroad has intermodal agreements with BNSF and is partially owned by UP.
